Ukraine drone strike on Russian holiday spot kills 11

At least 11 people, including three children, died and dozens were wounded after Ukraine launched drone strikes targeting a Russian Black Sea resort and the annexed peninsula of Crimea, according to officials. The crisis task force for Russia's southern Krasnodar region reported that a drone attack on the seaside village of Arkhipo-Osipovka killed seven people.

Venyamin Kondratyev, the governor of the Krasnodar region, confirmed the strike, stating that Ukraine had targeted the resort with a drone. Unverified social media footage appeared to show a drone crashing into a crowded beach. The Russian health ministry reported that 21 people were hospitalized, with nine in serious condition, and specialist medical teams were dispatched to the area.

In a separate incident, four people were killed in a Ukrainian strike on Crimea, according to Sergey Aksyonov, the Moscow-installed governor of the peninsula. Both Arkhipo-Osipovka and Crimea are popular summer destinations for Russian tourists. These attacks follow a pattern of escalating civilian casualties in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The United Nations has noted an increase in civilian deaths throughout 2026 as the war continues without a peace deal. Russia has accused Kyiv of targeting civilians, including a recent attack on a holiday camp that allegedly killed 11 people, including four children. Ukraine, in turn, frequently fires drones into Russia in retaliation for Moscow's missile and drone barrages against Ukrainian cities.
