Ukraine Drones Hit Wildberries Warehouses Near Moscow and St. Petersburg

Ukrainian drones launched a significant attack on Russia, reportedly hitting infrastructure in multiple regions, including a Wildberries distribution center near Moscow. Local residents shared images and videos on social media depicting thick black smoke billowing from the logistics hub in Chekhov, located approximately 65 kilometers south of the Kremlin.

Later in the morning, smoke was also observed rising from a Wildberries warehouse in Krasny Bor, Leningrad Oblast, a community situated about 33 kilometers southeast of St. Petersburg. The governor of Leningrad Oblast, Alexander Drozdenko, confirmed via Telegram that drones had struck an unspecified warehouse in Krasny Bor.

The region around St. Petersburg, like Moscow, has rarely been targeted by Ukrainian attacks during the large-scale invasion due to concentrated Russian air defense. However, Ukrainian drones have recently demonstrated increased effectiveness in penetrating air defenses, striking various targets in heavily fortified cities. Wildberries, often compared to Amazon, has been the target of multiple Ukrainian attacks on its facilities in recent weeks.

The company's operations have faced international scrutiny. Its banking arm was sanctioned by the EU in July for contributing to the Russian state budget. Wildberries and its founder, Tatiana Kim, Russia's wealthiest woman, are subject to international sanctions due to the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In 2022, Poland described Wildberries as the "largest taxpayer in the Russian Federation." The company has also implemented internal policies, such as prohibiting employees from bringing smartphones to work.
