Ukraine launches massive drone attacks across Russia, killing at least six

Ukraine unleashed a massive drone assault across Russia, marking one of its most significant aerial attacks of the ongoing war and resulting in at least six fatalities within Russia. The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed to have downed 822 drones overnight.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that approximately 600 drones were detected heading toward the capital. An 83-year-old man died when a drone struck a private home in the Moscow region, according to local Governor Andrey Vorobyov. He also confirmed a drone attack ignited a blaze at a warehouse belonging to Russian retail giant Wildberries in Podolsk, with images showing thick black smoke billowing from the site.

In Russia's southwestern Rostov region, a drone attack on three towns killed five people, Governor Yury Slyusar stated. The assault, involving over 150 drones, caused damage to several homes, a railway station, and sparked a forest fire. Ukraine has intensified its attacks on Russia this year, increasingly targeting military industries and energy facilities with long-range missiles and drone swarms. These strikes have also hit large Wildberries depots, destroying billions of dollars worth of merchandise and bringing the war's impact directly to the Russian public.

Meanwhile, Russian missile attacks continued to strike Ukraine. A strike on Kryvyi Rih killed two people and injured 14, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who also reported one additional death in Sumy. A separate Russian attack on Kyiv caused fires across the capital and injured six people. "Wherever the Russians can reach with their ballistic missiles, they strike civilian infrastructure," Zelenskyy said, noting that air raid alerts persisted in many regions due to another wave of Russian drones.
