Ukraine Missiles Strike Russian Aerospace Giant Progress Factory

Ukrainian forces have reportedly launched a missile strike on the Progress factory in Samara, a major enterprise within Russia's aerospace industry. The attack, which occurred around 4 a.m. local time, prompted an air raid alert in the Samara region. Local sources reported hearing a jet aircraft, a powerful explosion, and observing a large fire near the suspected impact site.

Journalists analyzing available photos suggest the strike may have hit the territory of the Rocket and Space Center "Progress." This facility is crucial for Russia's space program, designing and manufacturing medium-lift launch vehicles like the Soyuz-2 series. These rockets are used to orbit satellites, including those for "Rassvet," Russia's answer to Starlink, providing satellite internet services. The strike on such a facility could significantly disrupt Russia's space capabilities and technological development.

Beyond the Progress factory, the attack may have impacted other nearby military and industrial sites. The Aviakor plant, located close to the suspected strike zone, is responsible for repairing and modernizing aircraft. Reports indicate that Building 106, the main workshop for aircraft assembly, might have caught fire. Furthermore, explosions and fires were also reported in the Nizhny Novgorod region, specifically near the "Savasleyka" airfield, which is known to host MiG-31K fighter jets. These jets are capable of carrying Kinzhal missiles, suggesting a potential broader impact of the coordinated strikes.
