Ukraine repels major Russian attack in Donetsk region

Ukrainian forces successfully repelled a large-scale Russian assault in the Donetsk region, according to Oleksandr Pivnenko, commander of Ukraine's National Guard. The offensive, launched on July 22, reportedly involved units from two combined arms armies and a tank division, supported by dozens of armored and military vehicles.

Russian forces attacked simultaneously from the Novoekonomichne and Vozdvizhenka directions, attempting to advance towards settlements near the village of Shakhove for about four hours. Ukrainian military reports indicate that Russian forces also utilized Geran and Lancet attack drones to support the operation. During the fighting, Ukrainian troops claim to have destroyed a Russian Tornado-S multiple rocket launcher system, which was used to support the offensive.

The Ukrainian army stated that they blocked the advance of mechanized columns using minefields and by targeting crossing points, thereby hindering Russian troop maneuvers. According to the Ukrainian military's assessment, seven tanks, six armored combat vehicles, a BM-21 Grad system, a Tornado-S system, three special military equipment units, and 47 light vehicles were destroyed.

Ukraine also reported that 123 Russian soldiers were killed and 29 were wounded in the clashes. Units from the 1st Azov Corps, Ukrainian Air Force, Security Service of Ukraine, Drone Forces, Border Police, and other army and National Guard structures participated in the operation. Separately, Ukrainian authorities announced that 230 clashes occurred along the front line in the past 24 hours, with the most intense fighting in the Pokrovsk sector, where Ukrainian forces repelled 37 Russian attacks.
