Ukrainian National Arrested at Bajakovo Border Crossing for Alleged 70,000 Euro Fraud

A swift police operation at the Bajakovo border crossing has led to the arrest of a Ukrainian national suspected of a significant fraud targeting an elderly resident of Đakovo. The 33-year-old man was apprehended late on April 16th after authorities, acting on a warrant from the County Court in Osijek, discovered over 10,000 euros and 200 US dollars in his possession, along with other items linked to the alleged crime.

The investigation, conducted by the Osijek-Baranja Police Administration, suggests the suspect committed the fraud on April 9th, defrauding an 80-year-old woman of an estimated 70,000 euros. This case highlights the vulnerability of elderly citizens to sophisticated scams and the diligent work of the Croatian police in pursuing such criminals.

Following the investigation, the suspect was handed over to the custodial supervisor of the Municipal State Attorney's Office in Osijek, where further legal proceedings will take place.
