UMAX Welcomes New Medical Students with White Coat Ceremony

Universidad María Auxiliadora (UMAX) marked a significant milestone for its incoming medical students with a symbolic white coat ceremony. This event welcomed the first-semester cohort into the medical profession, signifying their first step toward a career dedicated to preserving life.

The white coat, a symbol of trust and responsibility, was presented to the students in a ceremony attended by their families and university authorities. This tradition underscores the societal confidence placed in future healthcare professionals. UMAX boasts a robust medical program, having graduated 2,600 doctors who practice both domestically and internationally.

Students will undergo more than 9,700 hours of training throughout their six-year course. The university supports this rigorous education with clinical agreements with 24 public hospitals, a state-of-the-art medical simulation center, and the nation's first digital auditorium. These resources aim to equip students with advanced practical skills and knowledge.

UMAX Rector Prof. Dr. Javier Quiñónez addressed the students and their families, expressing gratitude for their trust and emphasizing the university's commitment. He urged students to approach their studies with discipline and practice with ethics, reminding them of their future role in restoring health and hope to those in need. Dean Dr. Luis López further stressed the importance of valuing the white coat, linking it to scientific rigor and unconditional dedication, and reminding students that a calling without preparation is insufficient.
