UMI Makassar launches doctoral program in Civil Engineering

The Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) in Makassar has received official approval from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology to launch a doctoral program in Civil Engineering. This marks a significant milestone for UMI, underscoring its commitment to advancing higher education in the field.

Sultanbatara, head of the Regional Education Service Institute (LLDikti) Wilayah 9, presented the decree, emphasizing that UMI's human resources are well-tested and competitive. He noted that the university's substantial preparation, including the availability of at least two professors, made it eligible for the doctoral program.

UMI Rector, Prof. Dr. Hambali Thalib, expressed gratitude for the government's trust. He stated that the program's objective extends beyond simply adding a course of study; it is a strategic mission to prepare engineers, researchers, and future leaders equipped to contribute to Indonesia's development through knowledge, research, and innovation.

The university views the new program as a significant responsibility and is committed to delivering high-quality doctoral education. UMI plans to foster a strong research culture and expand collaborations with government bodies, businesses, industry, professional associations, and both domestic and international universities. The program aims to produce graduates who can design, build, and maintain infrastructure with expertise, integrity, and environmental consciousness.

UMI anticipates the Civil Engineering doctoral program will become a hub for research addressing development challenges. Research areas will be broad, encompassing transportation infrastructure, water resources, sustainable construction, disaster mitigation, and adaptive urban and regional development.
