UMNO denies blocking Negeri Sembilan MB term limit

UMNO Negeri Sembilan chairman Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias has denied allegations that his party opposed a proposal to limit the term of the state's Menteri Besar to two terms. He clarified that the motion was brought forward when Barisan Nasional (BN) was in opposition between 2018 and 2022, and its decision rested with the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government then.

"I don't know what the Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, is referring to. I am not aware, and I am certain UMNO was not involved, nor did it agree or disagree with the matter, as it was decided by the PH government at the time," Jalaluddin said. He added that the issue had no connection to UMNO.

This statement comes after media reports quoting Aminuddin, who is also the Negeri Sembilan PH chairman, claiming the two-term limit for the Menteri Besar failed to materialize because BN rejected the motion when it was presented in the State Legislative Assembly.
