UN official welcomes Israeli plan for international force in Gaza

Nickolai Mladenov, the UN's point person for Gaza, has welcomed Israel's decision to allow the deployment of an International Stabilization Force (ISF) in the Strip. This move follows the Israeli Security Cabinet's approval of a pilot program to establish a humanitarian zone in Rafah, supervised internationally.

Mladenov stated on social media that he welcomes the measures taken by Israel, which align with UN Security Council Resolution 2803. He described the ISF's arrival as a fundamental component of the agreed framework for stabilizing Gaza, aiding its demilitarization, and supporting the transition to an effective transitional Palestinian administration under the Gaza National Governing Council.

I welcome the measures taken by Israel that allow for the deployment of the International Stabilization Force in Gaza, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2803.

The diplomat emphasized that the immediate priority is to advance the implementation of the "20-point plan for Gaza," including a roadmap presented by mediators. This plan aims to consolidate the ceasefire and initiate the political and administrative transition in the Palestinian enclave.

The announcement came shortly after the Israeli Security Cabinet sanctioned the pilot project. This initiative, set to begin in Rafah in the coming weeks, involves restoring the management of basic resources in a southern Gaza area. The project will be overseen by bodies of the Peace Board and supported by the ISF, a multinational force reportedly comprising representatives from countries allied with Israel. The plan envisions a pilot zone managed by the Palestinian technocratic government, with the ISF's backing.
