Under the magnifying glass: A two-man wedding ceremony – where was it filmed?

A video depicting a same-sex wedding ceremony has been circulating on Russian social media, accompanied by claims that it was filmed in Lviv, Ukraine. However, this assertion has been debunked as false.

The video actually captures the wedding ceremony of Swedish tenor Rickard Söderberg and Anders Söderberg, which took place in Malmö, Sweden, in 2025. The original footage and photos from the event were shared by Rickard Söderberg on his Instagram account in July 2025.

Kremlin propaganda frequently attempts to portray Western societies as detached from traditional family values, often using out-of-context or fabricated stories. This instance appears to be another example of such efforts, aiming to misrepresent events and sow disinformation.

It is important to note that Ukrainian law currently does not permit same-sex couples to enter into state-recognized civil marriages. The Ukrainian Constitution, Article 51, states that marriage is based on the free consent of a man and a woman. Similarly, Article 21 of the Civil Code defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman, properly registered with the state civil registry office. Therefore, any same-sex ceremony in Ukraine would be symbolic and not legally binding.
