UNI Out of QS World Rankings 2027: Peru's Only Public University Among World's Top 1,000 is San Marcos

The National University of Engineering (UNI) has been notably excluded from the QS World University Rankings for 2027, a surprising omission given its historical recognition in engineering and applied sciences within Peru. This year's rankings highlight the National University of San Marcos (UNMSM) as the sole public Peruvian university to be included among the world's top 1,000 institutions, securing a position in the 951-1000 range.

The prestigious ranking, compiled annually by the British consultancy Quacquarelli Symonds, evaluates universities based on academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty citations, student-faculty ratio, international faculty, and international students. UNMSM's inclusion underscores its consistent performance and national standing.

Meanwhile, the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP) continues to lead Peruvian institutions, achieving the 357th position globally with an overall score of 41.4. Other Peruvian universities appearing in the rankings include the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH) in the 1001-1200 range, and Universidad Científica del Sur and Universidad de Lima both in the 1201-1400 range. The Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC) is listed in the 1401+ category.

The absence of UNI from this year's list has sparked discussion, particularly as the university is a prominent public institution. The rankings serve as a key indicator for academic prestige and global competitiveness, influencing student choices and institutional development.
