Unique Dog Hair DNA Analysis Bolsters Swedish Murder Appeal Case

A groundbreaking forensic technique involving dog hair DNA is set to play a crucial role in a Swedish murder appeal. Prosecutors are leveraging a new analysis method developed by researchers from two Swedish universities and the National Forensic Centre in Linköping to link a dog hair found on a suspect's shoe to a specific pet.

The 22-year-old man was sentenced to life in prison by the District Court of Norrköping on May 22 for the murder of Syrian-Armenian rapper Ninos Moses Khouri, also known as Gaboro, in December 2024. While the court found sufficient evidence to convict him, the defense has appealed the decision to the Göta Court of Appeal.

The man was also convicted of attempted murder, weapons offenses, and drug offenses. However, a co-accused was acquitted due to insufficient evidence. Staaf noted that the perpetrator's carelessness in discarding the shoes was fortunate for the investigation, allowing for the recovery of this critical DNA evidence.
