Unisba Socializes 'Aksara Mahasiswa' Program to Foster Student Community Impact

Universitas Islam Bandung (Unisba) has officially launched the "Aksara Mahasiswa" program for 2026, encouraging students to be agents of change and community problem-solvers. The initiative, themed "Impactful Students," aims to foster a spirit of community engagement beyond the classroom.

The "Aksara Mahasiswa" program, which stands for "Student Action Program for Learning and Community Empowerment," was socialized at Unisba's main hall. The event was organized by the Directorate of Community Service, Directorate General of Research and Development, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek), in collaboration with Unisba. Approximately 300 participants from 65 universities in West Java and Banten attended, including faculty, student affairs leaders, and student organization officials.

This program aligns with Indonesia's Law Number 12 of 2012 on Higher Education, emphasizing community service. It operates with lecturers serving as mentors, bridging university research with community needs. Unisba's Rector, Prof. Ir. A. Harits Nu'man, MT, Ph.D, IPU, ASEAN Eng, highlighted the university's responsibility to provide solutions for societal issues, not just generate knowledge. He cited Unisba's ongoing "zero waste" program in Arcamanik, involving around 500 students and recognized as an "Impactful Campus" initiative.

Dr. Lukman, Head of the West Java and Banten Region IV Higher Education Service Institute (LLDikti), noted Unisba's repeated selection as a host for the "Aksara Mahasiswa" event, underscoring the university's commitment to student community service. He observed a rising interest in community service grants, despite a decrease in funding recipients, and called for increased budget allocation. Lukman also introduced the "Sorot" program, an initiative to document student community service activities.
