UniSZA orders removal of controversial clinic ad banners

Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) has swiftly removed advertising banners for its UMC Medical Clinic after they went viral on social media for using inappropriate language. The university acknowledged the promotional content was unsuitable for public display and caused misunderstanding.

UniSZA Holdings Sdn. Bhd. (UHSB), a subsidiary responsible for the clinic's operations, was ordered to take down all banners on July 13, the same day they were erected. The university stated the banners were displayed for less than five hours before being removed to prevent further confusion and discomfort.

The university has taken this matter seriously, directing UHSB to conduct an internal investigation. The goal is to identify the cause of the incident and ensure all future promotional materials adhere to established communication standards. UniSZA also mandated a review of the approval process for promotional content under its subsidiaries to enhance thoroughness, professionalism, and sensitivity to public sentiment.

UHSB, through UniSZA Medical Services Sdn. Bhd., has issued a formal apology for the inconvenience and concern caused by the banners. The company committed to improving its review and approval processes and strengthening internal controls to prevent recurrence. UniSZA, as the parent institution, will monitor these improvements and ensure all communications reflect professionalism, integrity, and respect for public sensitivities.
