Universitas Terbuka targets one million students by 2028

Universitas Terbuka aims to serve one million students within the next two years, as its current enrollment reaches 856,444.

Rector Ali Muktiyanto announced the target at the university’s campus in South Tangerang. He said the goal formed part of an effort to ensure that UT would be able to serve one million students in a way that was adequate and sustainable.

Founded to widen access to higher education, Universitas Terbuka offers a model that does not restrict students by location or time. Ali said the university’s scale reflected demand for open, flexible and technology-based education.

This is part of our effort to ensure that within the next year or two we will be able, capable and worthy of serving one million students.

The university marked its 42nd anniversary with the theme “Going Global through Innovation, Making an Impact for the Nation.” The celebrations included academic, social, sports, arts and innovation activities, along with awards.

UT also launched an application, UT Jakarta 2, an anniversary book and a non-teaching materials book. Ali said expanding access had to go hand in hand with service innovation so more people could study, develop and contribute to Indonesia.
