University Program Empowers Elderly Through Creative Economy Literacy

The Faculty of Economics and Business at Muhammadiyah University of Jakarta, in partnership with the Association of Management Study Programs of Muhammadiyah and 'Aisyiyah Higher Education (APSMA PTMA), organized a national community service event in Rempoa, South Tangerang. The initiative focuses on empowering elderly residents by developing their creative economy skills, aiming to enhance their productivity and independence.

Hendra Pratama, the head of Rempoa Village, expressed his support, noting the program's significant impact on community development, especially for the elderly. He highlighted the goal of improving their health, independence, and quality of life through engagement in craft sectors.

Through this community service activity, we implement one of the pillars of Tridarma Perguruan Tinggi, namely community service. The knowledge possessed by higher education should not stop in the classroom, but must be present to provide real benefits to the community. We hope this activity can broaden the horizons of the community, especially the elderly, to be more confident in developing their creative economy potential.

Dr. Nasrullah, chairman of APSMA PTMA, emphasized the importance of entrepreneurial spirit for facing economic challenges. He stated that the event is a tangible implementation of the university's commitment to community service, ensuring that academic knowledge benefits society directly. The aim is to boost the confidence of the elderly in developing their creative economy potential.

Dr. Diana Hasan, the national community service event coordinator, hopes this initiative will spark entrepreneurial spirit among the elderly in Ciputat Timur. She stressed that the program provides entrepreneurial literacy and motivates seniors to remain active, productive, and confident in their skills, proving that the desire to learn and create knows no age limit. The event included sessions on entrepreneurship for the elderly, emphasizing the need for an economic independence mindset and leveraging creativity, experience, and potential.
