Unlicensed Driver's Repeated Failures Lead to Fatal Kaohsiung Crash

A tragic accident on July 29th in Kaohsiung's Luzhu District claimed the lives of two motorcyclists when a speeding car veered off the road and struck them. The driver, a 24-year-old man identified as He, was reportedly operating the vehicle without a valid driver's license, having failed the licensing examination on five separate occasions. This incident has brought to light a pattern of alleged long-term unlicensed driving by the suspect.

The collision occurred around 7 p.m. on Provincial Highway Zhongshan. He, driving a red sedan with his wife and daughter as passengers, was traveling northbound at speeds estimated between 80 to 90 kilometers per hour. For reasons yet undetermined, the vehicle lost control and veered onto the roadside, crashing into two motorcycles. The impact was severe, resulting in the immediate deaths of both motorcyclists, who were reportedly pinned between He's car and a parked white vehicle.

He sustained minor injuries to his head and limbs and sought medical attention at a local hospital. His wife and daughter were also treated for minor abrasions. Police confirmed that He tested negative for alcohol and drugs at the scene. He was subsequently transferred to prosecutors and released on NT$100,000 bail, with restrictions on leaving the country.

Reports indicate that He comes from a family involved in temple construction in the Luzhu market area. Having dropped out of junior high school, he has reportedly been difficult to manage. Despite multiple instances of being stopped by police for driving without a license, he allegedly continued the practice. Following the fatal crash, his family has reportedly expressed unwillingness to intervene or assist with compensation for the victims, leaving the suspect to face the consequences of his actions.
