Unlicensed Teen Driver Causes 5-Car Crash in Bucharest, 3 Injured

A serious traffic accident occurred in Bucharest early Tuesday morning when a 17-year-old driver, who did not possess a driver's license, collided with five other vehicles. The impact sent three people to the hospital for medical attention. The incident happened around 6:50 a.m. at the intersection of Gherghiței Street and Prelungirea Teslei.

According to initial police findings, the teenager was driving on Gherghiței Street when, for reasons yet to be determined by the investigation, they entered the intersection and crashed into five cars. Authorities confirmed the driver lacked any category of driving license. A breathalyzer test indicated a blood alcohol content of 0.23 mg/l. The adolescent was subsequently transported to the National Institute of Forensic Medicine for biological sample collection to ascertain further details.

Drivers of the other vehicles involved in the collision tested negative for alcohol. Emergency services and police responded to the scene, managing traffic flow and initiating an investigation. To facilitate the investigation and clear the wreckage, police imposed traffic restrictions on Gherghiței Street in the direction of Șoseaua Colentina towards A3. Traffic was diverted to the opposite lane under police guidance.

The results of toxicological analyses are pending and will determine the next steps in the case. The accident highlights the dangers of underage and unlicensed driving, compounded by the presence of alcohol.
