Uruguay issues orange alert for severe storms

The Uruguayan Institute of Meteorology (Inumet) has issued an orange alert for severe storms, with a yellow alert also in effect for surrounding areas. The warnings, updated on August 27, highlight the potential for heavy rainfall in short periods, hail, very strong wind gusts, and intense electrical activity.

The orange alert specifically affects numerous localities across the departments of Durazno, Flores, Florida, Lavalleja, Maldonado, Paysandú, Río Negro, Soriano, Tacuarembó, and Treinta y Tres. These regions are at the highest risk of experiencing the most severe weather conditions.

Additionally, a yellow alert is in place for parts of Cerro Largo, Rocha, Salto, Tacuarembó, Treinta y Tres, Canelones, Florida, Lavalleja, and Maldonado. While these areas are expected to face strong storms, the intensity may be less severe than in the orange-alert zones.

Inumet stated that it would update the meteorological warning at 8:00 AM or if significant changes occurred. The institute's warnings are crucial for residents to prepare for potentially dangerous weather events.
