Uruguay’s Defense Ministry opens applications for painter’s assistant job paying $82,627

Uruguay’s Ministry of National Defense is offering a painter’s assistant position with a nominal salary of 82,627 pesos, based on 2026 values. The job is based at the Armed Forces’ National Health Directorate in Montevideo and carries a 40-hour workweek.

The position forms part of an open public competition based on merits and professional background. It would be filled under a public-service contract lasting 12 months, with the possibility of extensions for up to four years under current regulations.

The selected worker will carry out painting tasks assigned by a supervisor and will not oversee other employees. The duties include applying primer and first and second coats of prepared paint, preparing surfaces by scraping, sanding and brushing, and using putty to cover small holes in wooden doors, cabinets and windows.

The job also involves diluting or preparing easily mixed paints under the officer’s instructions, operating electric machines and tools safely, reading plans and handling technical specifications. The full rules also list maintenance of electric machines and the assembly of wooden parts among the additional duties.

Applicants must be at least 18 by the end of the registration period, hold a valid identity document and current basic health card, and must not have previously been dismissed from another state position. Specific non-negotiable requirements include documented completion of primary school and at least three years of directly related experience. Relevant qualifications, courses and experience beyond three years will count in the assessment, as will qualities including adaptability, energy, physical effort and willingness to follow instructions. Applications must be submitted through the ministry’s website by Sept. 15.
