Uruguay weather: From extreme cold to rain and nearly 20°C

Uruguay's weather forecast for the upcoming week predicts a dramatic shift from frigid conditions to mild temperatures and rainfall. Experts from the Uruguayan Institute of Meteorology (Inumet) and meteorologists Mario Bidegain and Guillermo Ramis agree on the significant fluctuations.

The week begins with a very cold Monday, particularly for the "Noche de la Nostalgia" celebration. In Montevideo and the surrounding metropolitan area, Inumet forecasts a high of 11°C and a low of 6°C. The early hours of Tuesday, a public holiday, are expected to be even colder, with a minimum of 2°C and a maximum of 14°C, though no rain is anticipated.

Temperatures are set to rise significantly by Wednesday, with maximums reaching 19°C and minimums climbing to 8°C. Thursday will also be warm, with a high of 17°C and a low of 12°C, but Inumet indicates a high probability of rain and storms. The weekend will see a slight temperature drop, but precipitation is unlikely.

Meteorologist Mario Bidegain shared a GFS model forecast indicating widespread rain across Uruguay, especially in the eastern departments of Rocha and Treinta y Tres, which could receive between 25 and 75 millimeters of precipitation. He also noted a Meteoblue forecast predicting a cold Monday (max 12°C, min 7°C) with limited sunshine, a temperature increase on Tuesday, and a high of 21°C on Wednesday. Thursday is expected to remain warm at 19°C but will bring rain and thunderstorms.

Guillermo Ramis provided specific daily forecasts: Monday will be overcast with a low of 7°C and a high of 10°C. Tuesday will see a low of 4°C and a high of 13°C, also overcast. Wednesday's forecast is for overcast skies with a low of 7°C and a high of 18°C. Thursday is predicted to have "some storm cells" and 15 millimeters of rain in Montevideo, with temperatures between 14°C and 15°C. For Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, Ramis expects mostly cloudy skies with temperatures ranging from 9°C to 15°C.
