Uruguayan naval school ship Capitán Miranda returns to Spanish port of Cádiz

The Capitán Miranda, the flagship of Uruguay's National Navy, is scheduled to dock in the Spanish port of Cádiz this Wednesday. This arrival marks a significant stop on its 36th Training Voyage, holding particular symbolism as the historic vessel was constructed in Cádiz in 1930.

During its stay, the public will have the opportunity to tour the ship on August 13 and 14, between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM local time. Upon arrival, the ship will be welcomed by Uruguay's Ambassador to Spain, Bernardo Greiver. He will be joined by the Capitán Miranda's commander, the Defense Attaché from the Embassy, and the Consul of Uruguay in Cádiz for a series of protocol visits with local civil and military authorities.

The Capitán Miranda serves a dual purpose as a school ship, providing practical training for the National Navy's midshipmen and acting as a floating embassy during its international port calls. The vessel's current voyage has already included stops in various ports across Brazil, Curaçao, Mexico, the United States, and Portugal. It also participated in international nautical events like Sail Curaçao and Sail 250.

Following its visit to Cádiz, the Capitán Miranda will continue its journey to Tenerife in Spain's Canary Islands and then to Salvador de Bahía in Brazil. Its return to Montevideo is anticipated in September. The Cádiz stop is especially meaningful given the ship's origins there in 1930 and its later refitting in the same shipyards. The vessel has since trained generations of Uruguayan naval officers and stands as a symbol of the country's maritime tradition.
