Yatytay, Paraguay, Celebrates 39th Anniversary with Festive Gathering

Yatytay, a municipality in Paraguay's Itapúa department, marked its 39th anniversary on August 10, 2026, with a vibrant festival held the day prior. The event, hosted at the Municipal Sports Center, featured a diverse lineup of local talent, including dance troupes from various schools and performances by artists such as comedians Jagua ha Pira’i, singer Francisco Maidana, Junior Mosqueda, Grupo Sintonía, Jazmín del Paraguay, and Brisas del Paraná.

The celebration, organized by the municipality, was open to the public free of charge. The official anniversary date, August 10, commemorates the district's creation by Law No. 1,244 on August 10, 1987, when it was separated from the Domingo Robledo district (now Natalio).

Located approximately 116 km northeast of Encarnación, the departmental capital, Yatytay is a relatively young municipality. Its name, derived from Guaraní, translates to "snail water." The area is renowned for the striking Salto Tembey Municipal Ecological Park, a significant natural attraction. The name "Yatytay" itself is a palindrome, adding a unique linguistic feature to the region. Local legend speaks of a giant snail occasionally seen in the mist where the Tembey stream meets the Paraná River.

The district boasts lush vegetation, abundant timber resources, and numerous clear streams that flow into the Paraná River. It is also a major agricultural hub, particularly for grain production. The municipal flag, designed by Ignacio Delvalle Chávez, features green, white, and crimson red. The coat of arms is divided into four quadrants, depicting the patron saint San Juan Bautista, a Cornucopia symbolizing the land's wealth, the Salto del Tembey waterfall as a natural heritage site, and a tractor with wheat ears representing the primary agricultural activity.
