US breaks U20 mixed 4x400m record

The US team shattered the world record in the U-20 mixed 4x400m relay, clocking an astonishing 3:15.31 on the opening night of the World Athletics Under-20 Championships in Oregon. The quartet, comprising Joshua Shelton, Taylor-Nicole Overton, Jaelen Hunter, and Olivia Harris, significantly surpassed the previous best of 3:17.69 set by another US team in 2022. This remarkable performance set a high bar for the competition. South Africa's Jaco van Dyk also made his mark, earning a bronze medal in the men's shot put. He achieved a personal best of 19.80m in the final, following a strong qualifying throw of 19.09m. The gold medal went to Brazil's Alessandro Borges with 20.35m, and silver to South Korea's Si-hoon Park at 20.31m. In the men's 5000m, Kenya's Frankline Kibet continued his impressive form, adding the world U-20 title to his cross-country gold won earlier in the year. He finished ahead of his Kenyan teammate Nehemiah Kipngeno, who took silver in 13:30.09. Ethiopia's Damitew Kebede surprised with a bronze, setting a new personal best of 13:35.38. The men's 100m semifinals also saw strong performances, with USA's Tate Taylor recording the fastest time of 10.06 seconds, followed by South Africa's Marko Ferreira at 10.13 seconds.
