US Congressional candidate knocked out by MMA practitioner on Hawaii beach

A Democratic candidate for the U.S. Congress, Kirill Basin, was involved in a violent confrontation on a Hawaiian beach, resulting in his arrest and a $1 million bail.

The incident occurred Saturday at Keawakapu Beach in South Kihei. According to the Maui Police Department, the altercation began when a 61-year-old man asked Basin to reduce his music's volume. Basin allegedly responded with threats, including implying he had a firearm.

Video footage shows Basin approaching a woman and shouting threats. Kama Homan, a father with mixed martial arts (MMA) experience, intervened. After Basin pushed him, Homan delivered a blow that knocked Basin down. Basin then attempted to flee but tripped. When he got up, he tried to throw a chair at Homan, who then struck him again, leaving him incapacitated.

Basin eventually left the beach, reportedly making further threats. However, Fox News reported that Basin was the one arrested. Authorities charged him with two counts of first-degree terroristic threats. This was not his first encounter with law enforcement; he had previously been arrested in May for assault and property damage.
