US Deploys Latest F-15EX Jets to Japan as Part of Regional Power Buildup

Two of the U.S. Air Force's newest F-15EX fighter jets arrived at Japan's Kadena Air Base on June 29, marking a significant step in bolstering American air power in the Indo-Pacific. This deployment is a precursor to the planned permanent stationing of two squadrons, totaling 36 F-15EXs, at the strategic base, which will gradually replace the older F-15 C/D models currently in operation.

The F-15EX, while not a fifth-generation stealth fighter like the F-22 or F-35, boasts a formidable payload capacity of up to 13.4 tons of precision-guided munitions, rivaling that of some bombers. Its extended range and operational radius are among the most powerful of current fighter jets, enabling versatile air-to-ground and air-to-air combat missions in all weather conditions.

Kadena Air Base, located just 600 kilometers from Taiwan and serving as a critical rear base for the UN Command in case of conflict on the Korean Peninsula, is a key strategic hub for the U.S. Air Force in the region. Military analysts believe the reinforcement of U.S. air capabilities at Kadena with the F-15EX will serve as a strong deterrent against military adventurism by China and North Korea.

U.S. Air Force officials emphasized that the F-15EX represents the next generation of air power at Kadena. They stated that training with these aircraft will build confidence in their performance and ensure the continuous delivery of lethal strike capabilities to support a free and open Indo-Pacific.
