Joanna Chang, a Taiwanese-British tennis player, staged a dramatic comeback to win her first-round match in the US Open qualifiers. Ranked 201st in the WTA, Chang battled for nearly three hours to defeat Spain's Leyre Romero Gormaz, who was seeded 32nd and ranked 145th. The victory secured her spot in the second round, where she will face Australian-Chinese player Tianyu Han.

Chang's win was hard-fought, marked by a thrilling three-set battle. She dropped the first set 4-6 after initially leading 3-0, but rallied to take the second set 6-4. The deciding third set saw both players exchange powerful shots, with Chang ultimately prevailing 7-5. She saved three match points while leading 5-4 and then capitalized on her opportunity with a "game, set, match" break in the final game.

This performance marks a significant step for the 25-year-old Chang, who is the only Taiwanese player remaining in the singles competition. Her goal is to win three consecutive matches to qualify for the main draw of the Grand Slam tournament.
