For those needing their passport sooner, an expedited service is available for an additional fee of $60. The DOS recommends this service for individuals with travel plans within the next six weeks, as it typically reduces the delivery time to two to three weeks after application submission.

Further expedited delivery can be achieved by paying for faster shipping through USPS Priority Mail Express. The specific costs and requirements for this service should be confirmed directly with the post office. In cases where expedited service is paid for but the passport does not arrive as scheduled, a refund can be requested.

Beyond the standard expedited service, two additional categories exist for obtaining a passport more quickly in urgent travel situations or emergencies, each also incurring a $60 surcharge. Regardless of the chosen method, scheduling an appointment at a passport office is necessary. Applicants are encouraged to book appointments as soon as possible, as availability may be limited, potentially requiring travel to a more distant office.
