US seeks new ways to pressure Iran, military seeks 'creative' ideas

The U.S. military's Central Command (CENTCOM) is actively seeking "creative and unconventional" methods to exert pressure on Iran, according to a report by CNN citing intelligence analysts. A high-ranking officer reportedly sent an email to analysts within CENTCOM soliciting novel approaches to punish Iran, a move described as atypical within U.S. military structures.

This open solicitation for ideas suggests that the current strategy against Iran is undergoing a significant reassessment. Sources familiar with the matter indicated that CENTCOM is exploring all possible scenarios, implying that existing tactics have not yielded the desired results. This comes as the U.S. has been conducting airstrikes against Iranian targets for weeks, aiming to weaken its military capabilities and compel a return to negotiations, though a breakthrough has not occurred.

The Pentagon is reportedly examining various options, including potential strikes on facilities related to Iran's nuclear program. However, a major obstacle is the deep underground placement of some of these installations. Destroying them completely might necessitate a ground operation involving U.S. soldiers, a scenario fraught with immense political and military risks, especially given President Donald Trump's campaign promises to avoid further "endless wars."
