US Strikes Iran for 9th Straight Night as Strait of Hormuz Tensions Escalate

The United States launched its ninth consecutive night of military strikes against Iran, intensifying the conflict and escalating tensions across the Middle East. The overnight operations targeted military facilities in northwestern Iran, including areas near Tabriz, and sites in the southern port city of Bushehr, which houses Iran's sole civilian nuclear power plant.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that the strikes aimed to weaken Iran's capacity to threaten commercial and civilian shipping through the critical Strait of Hormuz. The operation reportedly struck Iranian military command centers, air defense systems, coastal surveillance facilities, missile and drone launch sites, maritime capabilities, and communications infrastructure. President Donald Trump asserted that the attacks were conducted "in honor" of fallen American service members, claiming significant military losses for Iran and asserting U.S. control over the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian state media reported at least one fatality and several injuries from a strike southwest of Tabriz, with multiple strikes also confirmed in Bushehr, though damage assessments were ongoing. Despite the ongoing military exchanges, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei indicated that diplomatic communication with Washington has not ceased, with Tehran continuing to receive messages through mediators. Baghaei emphasized that diplomacy remains a tool for protecting national interests, rejecting a dichotomy between war and diplomacy.

In response, Iran expanded its retaliatory actions, launching attacks targeting U.S. military assets in the Gulf. The Revolutionary Guard claimed responsibility for strikes against an early-warning radar system and facilities at Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait, including an MQ-9 drone hangar. Air raid sirens sounded in Bahrain, where air defense systems intercepted incoming attacks, and Jordan's military announced the interception of three missiles entering its airspace from Iran. These developments highlight the widening scope of the conflict and the heightened risks in the region.
