UTeM Enhances Digital Infrastructure with New Wi-Fi and 4G Tower

Over 12,000 students at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) are set to benefit from significantly improved internet access. The university is undertaking a digital infrastructure upgrade that will introduce 410 new Wi-Fi access points and a new 4G communication tower.

This initiative, part of the Universal Service Provision Project, is designed to bolster the digital learning, teaching, and training needs of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). The project is particularly crucial as TVET increasingly relies on digital technology.

Of the 410 planned Wi-Fi access points, 108 are already operational. The remaining 302 are under construction and scheduled for completion by September 23. The new 4G tower is expected to be finished by November 2026, enhancing communication coverage and the overall digital user experience on campus.

Officials emphasized that stable, high-speed internet is vital for a technical university like UTeM. It supports the use of smart labs, cloud-based engineering software, digital simulations, and various other learning applications integral to modern TVET. The upgrade aligns with the Ministry of Communications' commitment to strengthening digital connectivity in higher education institutions.
