Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan sign alliance relations treaty

Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan elevated their relationship to a new level with the signing of an Allied Relations Treaty, signaling a historic peak in bilateral ties. Presidents Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Sadyr Japarov inked the agreement in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan, following extensive discussions on expanding cooperation across key sectors.

The treaty underscores a commitment to deepening economic ties, with trade turnover already reaching $1.2 billion and 450 joint ventures established. The leaders aim to increase mutual trade to $2 billion by focusing on import substitution and establishing trading houses. A significant focus is placed on energy cooperation, particularly the joint construction of the Kambarata Hydroelectric Power Plant-1, and the development of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, including infrastructure and digitalization along the route.

Beyond strategic projects, the agreement covers a range of bilateral accords. These include definitive treaties on border sections and the joint use of the Chashma spring, alongside agreements on social insurance, pension recognition, and higher education credits. Plans are also in motion for the first Forum of Regions to foster inter-regional collaboration, with action plans set for culture, tourism, and the agro-industrial sector through 2027.
