Uzbekistan loses World Cup opener to Colombia 3-1

Uzbekistan began their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a 3-1 defeat against Colombia in a Group K match held at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. Despite the loss, the match marked a historic moment for Uzbekistan as midfielder Abbosbek Fayzullaev scored the nation's first-ever goal in World Cup history.

The Colombian team took the lead in the 40th minute through defender Daniel Muñoz, assisted by Luis Díaz. Shortly after halftime, Fayzullaev equalized for Uzbekistan, bringing his team level. However, Colombia quickly regained the advantage with another goal from Luis Díaz, followed by a third goal from Hamilton Campaz late in the game, sealing the victory for the South American side.

Colombia's goals were scored by Daniel Muñoz in the 40th minute, Luis Díaz shortly after Uzbekistan's equalizer, and Hamilton Campaz towards the end of the match. The referee for the game was Anthony Taylor from England.

Uzbekistan and Colombia are in Group K alongside Portugal and Congo. The 2026 World Cup is being co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with the tournament running from June 11 to July 19. Argentina is the defending champion.
