Valur Secures Narrow Victory Over Zrinjski in Europa Conference League Qualifier

Valur achieved a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Bosnia's Zrinjski Mostar in the first leg of their Europa Conference League qualifying tie, played at Hlíðarenda.

The visiting team appeared more likely to score during the first half, hitting the woodwork twice. Valur's Dagur Orri Garðarsson was their most active attacker, but he missed a chance from inside the box late in the first half. The first half concluded goalless.

Zrinjski continued to press in the early stages of the second half, but Valur's defense proved resilient, limiting the visitors' clear-cut opportunities. The breakthrough came in the 65th minute when Tryggvi Hrafn Haraldsson scored the winning goal for Valur. The goal originated from a quick and well-executed counter-attack, with Haraldsson finishing strongly from the edge of the box after receiving a pass from Jónatan Ingi Jónsson.

Following the goal, Valur maintained their defensive focus, successfully protecting their lead to secure a crucial home win. The second leg is scheduled to take place in Tampere in a week.
