French tennis player Luca Van Assche has been crowned the champion of the Estoril Open, securing his first ATP circuit trophy after a hard-fought final against Belgium's Alexander Blockx. The match concluded with a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 victory for Van Assche on Sunday.

Van Assche, currently ranked 78th in the world, displayed resilience throughout the match. Despite facing some physical discomfort from Blockx, the Belgian player managed to extend the contest to a decisive third set. However, Van Assche ultimately prevailed, securing a career-defining win.

This triumph is a significant milestone for Van Assche, as it marks his entry into the top 50 of the Association of Tennis Professionals rankings. During his run to the title, he overcame notable opponents, including top seed Andrey Rublev and former champion Pablo Carreño.

The day proved successful for French tennis overall, with the doubles title also claimed by the French duo Titouan Droguet and Kyrian Jacquet. They defeated the Brazilian pair Orlando Luz and Rafael Matos in a closely contested final, winning 7-6(2), 6-7(4), 11-9. The Estoril Open, a key ATP 250 tournament, will continue in this category next year.
