Vasilaki triumphs with new national record, advances to 1500m freestyle final

Artemis Vasilaki delivered a stellar performance at the European Swimming Championships in Paris, qualifying for the 1500m freestyle final while simultaneously smashing a new national record. The Greek swimmer completed an exceptional race, finishing second in her heat with a time of 16:13.81. This remarkable achievement not only secured her place in the final but also established a new national record for both women and the U23 category.

Vasilaki's new record surpassed the previous one by approximately 6.5 seconds, underscoring her current excellent competitive form. She also significantly improved her personal best of 16:20.95, which was set on May 8, 2026. The Greek athlete finished just behind Germany's Isabel Gose, who recorded 16:10.51.
