Vatulele targets 2027 Vanua Championship entry

Vatulele Rugby Union is setting its sights on joining the Fiji Rugby Union's Vanua Championship in 2027. Club games have already commenced on the island, with two rounds completed, as teams lay the groundwork for a more robust rugby future.

Bainivualiku captain Ilaitia Tavua expressed optimism, stating that players from villages across Vatulele are eager for the chance to represent the Vatulele Rugby Union next year. This local enthusiasm aligns with a broader interest from smaller unions.

The various clubs are made up of players from villages across Vatulele, and everyone is looking forward to the opportunity to represent the Vatulele Rugby Union next year.

Fiji Rugby Union Chief Operating Officer Talemo Waqa confirmed that eight associate members are interested in entering the Vanua Championship next season, with Vatulele being one of them. Other interested parties include Beqa, Natewa, and Rotuma. The FRU will evaluate these unions based on its constitution and compliance requirements.

Meanwhile, the Vanua Championship and Royal Tea Ranadi competitions are set to begin. Several matches are scheduled for the Vanua Championship, including Bua vs. Macuata and Yasawa vs. Vatukoula. The Ranadi competition will also feature multiple games, with Bua facing Taveuni and Yasawa hosting Vatukoula.
