Vegetation fires in Caraș-Severin: Valea Bolvașnița fire extinguished, fight continues in Lindenfeld

Firefighting efforts in Romania's Caraș-Severin county have successfully extinguished a significant vegetation fire in Valea Bolvașnița, which had burned approximately 47 hectares. The operation involved local firefighters from ISU Caraș-Severin, forestry workers, and volunteers from the Voluntary Service for Emergency Situations. A Black Hawk helicopter from the Ministry of Interior's General Aviation Inspectorate, equipped with a Bambi Bucket system, provided crucial aerial support, making 14 water drops totaling about 35 tons of water on the affected areas.

However, the battle against flames continues in Lindenfeld, where a single active fire foco remains. Despite initial reports of the fire being extinguished, it reignited in a challenging, hard-to-reach mountainous area. Two Black Hawk helicopters are currently engaged in water-dropping operations to support the ground teams battling the blaze. In the past day, these helicopters collectively made 32 water drops, releasing approximately 80 tons of water.

The Lindenfeld fire, which started on Tuesday, affected dry vegetation and forest land. The intervention teams, including firefighters, forestry workers, and emergency service volunteers, were transported to the difficult terrain by one of the Black Hawk helicopters. The Department for Emergency Situations confirmed that aerial reconnaissance identified the single remaining foco in Lindenfeld.

These ongoing fires highlight the persistent challenges posed by vegetation and forest fires in the mountainous regions of Caraș-Severin county. The use of aerial resources, such as the Black Hawk helicopters, has proven vital in combating fires in inaccessible locations, complementing the efforts of ground crews.
