Vehicle Crosses Median on Avenida Italia, Collides with Tow Truck; Driver Rescued

A serious traffic accident occurred on Avenida Italia near Parque Rivera when a driver crossed the central median and collided head-on with a tow truck. The tow truck was transporting a brand-new SUV at the time of the crash.

The female driver of the car became trapped inside her vehicle and required rescue by firefighters. She was reportedly traveling east when, for reasons still under investigation, she veered into the westbound lanes, striking the tow truck. The driver of the tow truck escaped the collision unharmed, according to reports.

Traffic was temporarily halted on Avenida Italia and Zum Felde due to the incident but has since been reopened. The cause of the driver crossing the median is currently being investigated.

In a separate incident in Santa Lucía, Canelones, a 41-year-old man was placed under 90-day house arrest with electronic monitoring for allegedly beating a neighbor's cat to death. Police responded to a complaint that the man was assaulting the feline, which later had to be euthanized due to severe injuries. Evidence was reportedly seized from the man's home. Prosecutors stated this was not the first complaint regarding the man and his alleged threats toward neighbors' pets. He was charged with aggravated theft, property damage, and aggravated private violence directed at the cat but intended for the owner. The prosecutor appealed the judge's decision to impose house arrest instead of pre-trial detention.
