Venezuela calls up twelve players for the Women's Americup 2027 South American Qualifiers

The Venezuelan women's national basketball team has revealed its roster for the upcoming FIBA Americup 2027 South American Qualifiers. The tournament is scheduled to run from August 3 to 9 in Zárate, Argentina, marking the debut competition for the team under new head coach Luz Vargas. Vargas previously led the U-18 women's team to a fourth-place finish in the AmeriCup, securing Venezuela's first-ever spot in the U-19 Basketball World Cup in China in 2027.

The squad features a blend of experience and youth, with an average age of 24.42 years. Key players called up include point guards Roselis Silva, Valeria Montero, and Yesimar Escudero. Astrid Inojosa, Waleska Pérez, and Mezharith Beleño are listed as shooting guards, while Darleska Pérez and Daniela Wallen will play as small forwards. The team also includes power forwards Génesis Rivera and Brianna Herlihy, and centers Enggy Rudas and Estefani Fajardo. Notably absent from the list are Mariana Durán, due to personal reasons, and Odeth Betancourt, who is sidelined with an injury.

Vargas will be supported by a technical staff including assistant coaches Ricardo Moreno and Diego Vásquez, physical trainer Andrés Añasco, doctor Alex Gómez, and physiotherapist Yalismer Montes de Oca. The team's preparation began on July 9, including three friendly matches against local teams in Asunción, Nueva Esparta. The team arrived in Zárate on July 29 for the qualifiers. Venezuela's group stage matches are set against Chile on August 4 and Brazil on August 6. The top four teams from this stage will advance to the FIBA Americup in El Salvador.
