Venezuela Deploys Intensive Fumigation and Health Control in La Guaira State

Venezuela has initiated an intensive sanitation campaign in La Guaira state, a region severely impacted by a recent earthquake. The Ministry of Health announced the special plan, which includes mosquito control, fumigation, disinfection, and rodent eradication efforts.

The primary goal of this health operation is to curb the spread of diseases carried by rodents and insects. These vectors can proliferate rapidly following environmental disruptions like landslides and the accumulation of debris caused by the earthquake. Specialized teams are working in key parishes, prioritizing areas with the most significant infrastructure damage, field hospitals, and temporary shelters housing over 12,000 displaced individuals.

The sanitary measure seeks to prevent the proliferation of rodents, mosquitoes and other disease vectors after the severe environmental alterations generated by the landslides and the accumulation of debris.

Health authorities in La Guaira reported that these biological containment actions have already provided protection to more than 16,000 citizens. This preventive deployment along the coast occurs amid a national epidemiological alert. Just this week, health officials confirmed three deaths from hantavirus in the northeastern region and are investigating two other potential fatalities in Barinas state.

The extensive fumigation and sanitation efforts in La Guaira underscore the government's response to potential health crises following natural disasters. The operation aims to mitigate immediate risks and protect vulnerable populations in the affected coastal communities.
