Venezuela Releases Over 1,000 Individuals Since January, Cites Peace Program

Venezuela has freed 1,046 individuals since January as part of its "Democratic Coexistence and Peace" program, according to acting president Delcy Rodríguez. This announcement comes two months after devastating earthquakes in June and amidst ongoing efforts to address political detentions.

Rodríguez stated that in addition to the releases, 12,000 people have received procedural benefits. She emphasized that the government intends to continue these efforts responsibly. The program's initiation was reportedly linked to the U.S. capturing Nicolás Maduro in a military operation in Caracas shortly after January 2026.
