Venezuela's Larrazábal wins equestrian gold at CAC Games

Venezuelan equestrian Luis Fernando Larrazábal clinched the gold medal in show jumping at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo. Riding his horse Baroness, Larrazábal executed a perfect round, free of penalties, to secure the top spot in the event held at the Palmarejo Equestrian Center.

The competition, which assesses the rider and horse pair's skill, precision, and speed, saw Larrazábal demonstrate exceptional control over Baroness. Guatemala's Lukene Arenas Saravia took silver with a score of 0.32, while Colombia's Juan Pablo Betancourt earned bronze with a score of 0.82. A total of 38 pairs competed in the event.

Beyond equestrian success, the Venezuelan delegation celebrated other achievements. The women's field hockey team secured a bronze medal by defeating Barbados 4-1, marking a historic first for the program at the games. Rosa Rodríguez also earned a silver medal in the hammer throw, her fourth podium finish at the Central American and Caribbean Games, with a best throw of 66.17 meters. Edymar Brea added another silver medal for Venezuela in the women's 5,000 meters race.

We had analyzed Barbados, as is part of the routine of our work. We knew we could do them a lot of damage in the penalty corner. Because of that, we planned the play based on their defense, and it worked out well.
