Venezuelan Striker Josef Martínez Reportedly Targeted by Olimpia

Paraguayan football club Olimpia is actively pursuing the acquisition of a new center-forward to finalize its squad, with Venezuelan international Josef Martínez emerging as a primary target. The club has until August 28 to secure a signing, as requested by coach Pablo “Vitamina” Sánchez, following the departure of Adrián Alcaraz.

Martínez, 33, recently parted ways with Mexican club Xolos de Tijuana, making him available as a free agent. His career includes a highly productive period with Atlanta United from 2018 to 2019, where he played under Gerardo “Tata” Martino and alongside Miguel Ángel Almirón. During this time, Atlanta United secured the Major League Soccer championship in 2018 and the US Open Cup in 2019.

The Venezuelan striker began his professional career at Caracas FC. His subsequent journey saw him play for clubs such as Young Boys and FC Thun in Switzerland, Torino in Italy, Atlanta United and Inter Miami in the United States, and Montreal in Canada, before his move to San José Earthquakes and then Tijuana.

Throughout his professional career, Martínez has amassed 464 appearances and scored 205 goals. For the Venezuelan national team, he has earned 70 caps and netted 15 goals, establishing himself as a significant figure in South American football.
