Veteran Actress Kuo Mei-chu Slams Performers' Union Chairwoman, Cites 'Fake Marriage' Allegations

Veteran Taiwanese actress Kuo Mei-chu has launched a scathing attack on the Performers' Union, particularly targeting its current chairwoman, Tsao Yu-ting. Kuo, known for her direct style, questioned Taiwan's talent pool if Tsao could hold such a position, calling it "ridiculous" for a union representing Taiwanese performers to be led by someone she considers Chinese.

Kuo expressed long-held grievances, alleging the union has historically favored performers of mainland Chinese origin. She recalled an incident where a veteran actress, Feng Yi, died without funds for her burial. Kuo stated she, along with others, had to provide financial assistance because the union offered neither money nor support. She now claims the union has become a "Chinese performers' union" rather than one for Taiwanese artists.

The actress further criticized the union's event bookings, claiming they heavily favored Chinese singers, citing Xia Yi's frequent appearances at union-organized events upon her arrival in Taiwan. When Taiwanese actors inquired about opportunities, Kuo said the union chair dismissed their concerns by stating, "This is singing and performing, you are actors." Kuo angrily retorted, "You are the performers' union, you take everyone's money but don't give opportunities, shouldn't you change your name to 'Chinese Singers' Union'?"

Kuo also cast doubt on Tsao Yu-ting's background, alleging she entered Taiwan through a "fake marriage" with actor Kang Kai to obtain residency and later secured a U.S. green card through similar means. Reflecting on her own career, Kuo, who started in films at age six and was among the first contract actors at TTV, said the union never contacted her even during her two cancer surgeries or invited her to annual events. She stated she had opted out of labor insurance through the union years ago, preferring to lose coverage rather than have her contributions used by the union. She only reinstated her labor insurance after starting her own company.
