Veteran singer Wang Meng-lin sentenced to 2 months for drunk driving crash

Veteran singer Wang Meng-lin has been sentenced to two months in prison, with the option to pay a fine of 60,000 yuan, and an additional 30,000 yuan penalty for drunk driving. The incident occurred on December 29, 2025, when Wang, 71, was driving in Taipei's Neihu District.

His vehicle veered off course and collided with a street cleaner's cart parked on the roadside. While the cart and its contents were scattered, the environmental worker narrowly avoided being hit. Wang's car continued forward until it was stopped by a lamppost.

Upon arrival, police administered a breathalyzer test, which revealed Wang's blood alcohol content to be 0.73mg/l, significantly exceeding the legal limit. After being questioned and processed, he was released on a 20,000 yuan bail.

Prosecutors indicted Wang in January, requesting a summary judgment. The Shilin District Court recently ruled on the case, finding him guilty of driving under the influence. The court sentenced him to two months imprisonment, convertible to a fine, and the additional 30,000 yuan penalty. The verdict is subject to appeal.
