Veterinarian Murdered in Oaxaca Amidst Wave of Violence in Isthmus Region

A veterinarian, identified as Everardo N. P., 35, was fatally shot on Tuesday afternoon in Matías Romero Avendaño, a municipality in Oaxaca's Istmo de Tehuantepec region. His wife was also wounded in the armed assault and is in critical condition at a hospital.

According to preliminary public security reports, assailants stormed into the couple's business, "Comercial Veterinaria," located in the Barrio Nuevo neighborhood. The attack has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting a disturbing rise in violence.

The Istmo de Tehuantepec region has been gripped by a series of violent incidents over the weekend. In Juchitán de Zaragoza, two separate armed attacks occurred late Monday night. One incident left Giovanni S. D. seriously injured and later deceased, while another resulted in the hospitalization of Rosa Fabiola “N,” 25, who remains in delicate health.

Further compounding the violence, a body with multiple gunshot wounds was discovered in Salina Cruz's La Soledad neighborhood. Additionally, an armed assault targeted the Ranchu Gubiña transport base in Juchitán on Tuesday morning, marking the second such attack on the company, reportedly due to extortion demands.
