Victor Negrescu ranked among most influential MEPs in EU Matrix 2026 Index

Victor Negrescu, the Vice-President of the European Parliament, has been recognized as one of the most influential lawmakers in the EU, securing the fourth position in the EU Matrix 2026 MEP Influence Index. This prestigious ranking highlights the most influential members of the European Parliament.

Negrescu stands out as the sole representative from Romania to be featured prominently in the European rankings compiled by EU Matrix. The analysis notes that his influence stems from a combination of institutional leadership and direct management of key dossiers during the current mandate, particularly the EU budget.

He is surpassed only by Group PPE President Manfred Weber, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, and Group S&D President Iratxe García Pérez. The EU Matrix analysis assesses the impact MEPs have had on European policies since the commencement of the current legislative term in 2024. The study utilizes tens of thousands of data points collected by a team with 18 years of experience in evaluating the political dimension of EU decision-making processes.

Victor Negrescu, a member of the Socialists and Democrats (S&D) political group, was elected Vice-President of the European Parliament in April 2024, garnering 394 votes. He is also an academic and a politician, having previously served as a minister delegate for European affairs and a Member of the European Parliament since 2014. Negrescu assumed his current MEP mandate on February 1, 2020, following Romania's acquisition of an additional seat in the European Parliament after Brexit.
