Willis was the charismatic "cop" of the Village People, a group formed in 1977 by producers Jacques Morali and Henri Belolo. Known for their elaborate costumes and catchy tunes, the band became a global phenomenon with hits like "YMCA," "In the Navy," and "Macho Man." Willis, originally discovered in the Broadway musical "The Wiz," was instrumental in the group's early success, co-writing many of their biggest songs.
